On March, 11th 1978, a news shattered France : Claude François, « Cloclo » for his fans, died electrocuted in his Parisian appartment. The unexpected death of the idole drove the French public into a deep sorrow that would go up to hysteria…A crowd of young ladies followed the hearse to his last home. His sepulchre became rapidly a site of pilgrimage.
The singer was gone but the legend has just started…On March, 15 th of the same year, a posthumous single was released : « Alexandrie Alexandra »…Thirty years later, his fans seem to have multiplied. Claude François has become the emblematic singer of several generations.
France was charmed, but what about the rest of the world ? To answer this question, we have decided to go much further that the Moulin de Dannemois (residency of the singer that has become a house-museum)…Thousands miles away…To the country of the rising sun…Twelve Japanese artists from Tokyo, Osaka, etc. All part of the new Japanese scene undertook to pay tribute to our very French Cloclo in the language of Yukio Mishima !
And what about Claude François succeeding in Japan thirty years after his death ?…No doubt that the anthems which became famous thanks to the creator of « My Way » will have a particular resonance in the country of « Samurais »… The ultimate reverence to the probably last « shogun » of French chanson.
